In my strategic management class, a team of three was assembled in order to complete a project that I believe directly relates to diversity.  A PowerPoint presentation of this project was linked on the last page.  Not only did the project show my practical excellence, it also showed my diversity.  My group took Starbuck's culture as the problem and solution to the company.  We were able to take Starbucks, compare it to other international companies, and analyze problems that dealt with competition.  Starbuck's culture was closely examined and analyzed.  We decided that Starbuck's culture is being changed in response to international strategies.  The problems that we discovered is that the success of Starbucks was due to it's culture.  Changing the culture is creating big problems, even though international companies are all following different strategies. To view the Starbucks analysis paper please click https://altezza24417.tripod.com/StarbucksFinal.doc.

This project helped me understand how important a company’s culture is.  Starbucks built a company on a specific culture and then deviated from it.  That caused many problems for Starbucks.  International coffee companies as well as most other consumer goods companies are focusing on cheaper prices which are directly affecting a company whose culture revolves around a highly priced, richly flavored product.

I now understand the importance of culture to a company.  I also understand that changing that culture in response to global strategies can be harmful.  This will help me in future companies when dealing with international changes.  I will be equipped to handle the changes and will develop solutions that will not compromise what the company stands for.

This project also used my diversity skill in order to compare international companies.  We developed criteria to match our company to other international companies.  We then analyzed the criteria and picked solutions that would allow our company to compete in the international industry.

Both projects will help me add value to my future companies because I am able to develop solutions to international problems.
