Practical excellence is important when dealing with professional people in professional environments.  It is also helpful when working with teams or networking with people of importance.  I am exceptionally proud of my practical excellence because it has helped me get where I am.  My personality allows me to open up and meet new people, my practical excellence shows when those people are professionals. 

An example of my skill is illustrated in a team project in a strategic management class.  The assignment was to pick a company, analyze the company, discover areas in the company that could use improvement, and develop solutions to the problems.  There are two different ways that this presentation helped show my skill.  One reason is how I obtained some of the information and another is how I worked with my team to develop a presentation.  To view my team's PowerPoint presentation on Starbucks please click https://altezza24417.tripod.com/StarbucksMNGT481.ppt.

This presentation was important because unlike previous assignments, I was given a company and told to find things that were wrong, but not apparent, and then fix it.  This project was a team assignment which allowed me to exercise my practical excellence skill.  I was able to talk to the team and get good input and ideas from everyone.  One thing that we did was contact the human resources department of Starbucks.  At first, they were very reluctant to talk to me because they did not know why I was asking specific questions about the company.  I was able to explain the project and the reason that I believed that contacting Starbuck's company's human resources department was a good idea.  The questions that I asked were specific but the responses that I got were broad.  Nonetheless, I was able to get responses.

This project taught me how important it was to be able to have a professional attitude when dealing with businesses.  If I had not been able to talk to Starbuck's employees professionally, I would have not gotten any feedback at all. 

This skill has been extremelty useful in my internship.  My internship requires a great deal of professionalism and personalism.  I was able to prove to the lawyers in my firm that I was able to maintain a professional demeaner when it came to client and office relations.  To view the letter of commendatoin that was written by my supervisor please click https://altezza24417.tripod.com/letterofcommendation.pdf. 

This skill will add value to future companies because I will be able to interact with new customers, investors, partners, etc.  After working in retail and as a bartender/server I know how important it is to interact with customers.  If a customer does not feel that they are treated with respect, they are likely to network a bad experience to others.  My ability to connect professionally with others will help ensure that that will never happen.
